Good for Low Back Pain and/or Existential Dread
This book is half helpful yoga instruction and half meditations by your funny, smart crazy-dangerous friend.
The asanas are presented in three parts - narrative description, photos of the author demonstrating the steps of the pose, and computer representations using a sort-of metal Terminator figure to illustrate the subtleties of the pose. It's really quite effective. The emphasis seems to be on poses that focus on the spine and lower back, and seem suitable for beginners.
On top of that you get an idiosyncratic commentary from the author on pretty much whatever occurred to him as he was writing the book. This is not condescending yoga talk, but more like an urban cool sort of thing that I at least found very engaging. When your day to day behavior is guided by asking yourself "what would a crack head do?", you know you aren't in Hallmark card territory anymore.
So, if you like puckish humor, you don't mind urban hipster humor when done with a...
Hilarious, Witty and Informational video
The Yoga Advocate is not only informative and descriptive but stinking hilarious!!!!!! Highly recommended both for enhancing your yoga ability and for many good clean laughs!! The E-book is also an essential partner to the video. In the E-book Yogi goes deeper in both his ancient wisdom and eternal humor. Yogi Aaron DeEsperanza is a master, and budding guru who will fill your life with laughter and healing humor!!!!!!! I feel much more flexible, peaceful, and my hair removal process is now less time consuming, although a bit more painful!!!! Keep up the great work and can't wait for what is next!! I ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya!
Off the wall and well worth the read
A friend of mine loaned me this book to read because of my years of interest in the subject. I have read/studied a number of books on yoga - most have been rather dry - I guess one could say purely instructional in form. De Espana's approach to the subject is certainly unique. His sense of humor in approaching the subject is off the wall - very entertaining. The photographs and illustrations were more than adequate. I particularly liked the silver "humanoid" model. I read De Espana's book cover to cover in one sitting and refer to the illustrations often. He most certainly knows the subject.
If my friend remembers who he loaned this book to, and asks me to return it, I will certainly purchase my own from Amazon. I highly recommend this book for the beginner and for anyone interested in yoga.
