Fun and funny!
A perfect couple of actors to pair up..Fred MacMurray and Eleanor Parker. Eleanor is sent to give Fred the news that he had come into a large inheritance. She sets out to win him, although he is going to be married to someone else. The things she does and the mischief she gets them into has them going from one madcap thing to another. They just don't make movies like they used to!
A Millionaire for Christy
This is a cute funny movie and who doesn't love Fred Macmurray!! Give it a try and you will see!
Eleanor Parker's likable gold digger
In the same year that Eleanor Parker starred in the edgy Detective Story (1951) (and was later nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for it), she ventured into romantic comedy territory with A MILLIONAIRE FOR CHRISTY. She built her reputation on the strength of her fine dramatic turns, and yet I vastly prefer her more playful vehicles. I guess I don't fancy me the three-hankie tearjerker. My favorite Eleanor Parker movie is The Voice of the Turtle (a.k.a. ONE FOR THE BOOK), a fine and gentle wartime romantic comedy. This one's a bit more in your face with the humor. It's got more screwball elements. It's produced by Parker's then husband, Bert Friedlob, and directed by George Marshall whose resume includes another slapstick MacMurray picture, Murder, He Says...
